ORCA Crew took part in the third stage of the 2026 Lithuanian RS280 Cup, held on Kaunas Lagoon. Originally planned as a two-day regatta, the event was shortened after the opening day was cancelled due to a complete lack of wind. As a result, all racing took place on Sunday, when the fleet finally had the opportunity to compete.
The day began under clear skies with light summer winds of 3-4 knots, creating conditions that demanded patience, precision, and tactical decision-making rather than outright speed. Four races had been scheduled, but only three were completed before rapidly changing weather brought the competition to an early close.
ORCA Crew showed consistent improvement throughout the day, finishing 5th, 3rd, and 2nd in the three races. The steady progression reflected the crew’s growing confidence and ability to adapt to light-wind sailing, where every manoeuvre and tactical decision can have a significant impact on the final standings.
As the third race concluded, dark storm clouds quickly approached from the west. Heavy rain, thunder, and strong wind gusts transformed the conditions within minutes, prompting race officials to cancel the fourth and final race in the interest of competitor safety.
Based on the three completed races, ORCA Crew finished 5th overall, gaining another valuable opportunity to develop as a team. While the result placed the crew at the back of a highly competitive RS280 fleet, the regatta reinforced important lessons in light-wind racing, teamwork, and adaptability under rapidly changing weather conditions.
Every regatta offers more than a place on the leaderboard. The 2026 Lithuanian RS280 Cup Stage III reminded the team that success in sailing comes through continuous learning, strong cooperation, and respect for the ever-changing forces of nature.
